Hi all

My near side front wheel has been damaged, probably by a potholed during the floods. My mechanic is having problems sourcing one. Whe I search online I can find lots available but I onto really know that I'm looking for. I trust my mechanic but he's old school and things like the internet has passed him by. I've offered to help find a wheel but he hasn't given me sufficient information to do so.

I'd like to bring a short list of possibles to him. What would I be looks for? It's a jaguar x type, 2008 2l diesel

Thanks,
S

a bit more info may help, like what size is the wheel what sort of wheel is it

if you dont know what style it is then a size and a photo of the wheel would be a great help and then we may be able to help
  • You might find your wheels here, useful reference anyway.

I have no association with the company, when searching for a set for my sons S type, i spoke to the guvnor at SB, very helpful chap and no hard sell.

Ebay is your friend for this. Expect to pay £100 - £200 depending upon the wheel design (there are several options). If you can find out the rim size and get a pic of the wheel it will help pin down the design.

You can get alloys repaired for a lot less than a new one, minor buckles and cracks can be fixed. Some x type wheels are more prone to damage than others due to design, Aruba types for one.

Buying second hand off Ebay is a minefield as you don't know the wheels history unless brand new, and I know certain x type wheels are now out of production.

when you buy a second hand car do you know the wheels history?

no you dont and buying a second hand wheel off e bay or from a scrappie is no different to buying a second hand car with four wheels that you dont know the history of

same applies to part worn tyres, many on here say never buy a part worn tyre as you dont know the history but when we buy a second hand car we are happy to buy four part worns with totally unknown history

It's a wheel for godsake! If it's not buckled, looks good and spins on an axle then you're good to go!!! You don't need a bloody service history for a wheel!!!!!

Find a new mechanic or do it yourself. Whether you trust or like him or not is irrelevant when he's unable to perform his duties adequately - and not being able to supply the parts to fit would certainly fit in to that category.

If he's old school and hasn't been introduced to the internet then more fool him

Apologies for the delay in responding. My mechanic has come back with:

    Jaguar 7J x 17
    ET 52.5
    Code YX431007AA Softec (Hungary) BQWCA

I can find Jaguar 7J x 17 ET 52.5 but only in sets of four.
