We have seen a few people here have reported that the Banks, Building Societies cannot verify their addressees, ID, electronically.

The fact is that
- Those person could see clearly that they are on electoral roll from credit reports of three major CRAs
- In almost the same time they also applied for another product from a different bank, but different result as they pass electronic verification and no need to send further proof photo ID and proof of address.

I have read quite a few people encounter the problem like this, I am one those.

I even have a more extreme case where I used to have products with them in the past.

Here are some banks/BS I found fail to identify me electronically?
1. N&P BS
2. Clydesdale Bank
3. Cooperative bank
4. Principality BS

For 3&4 I even had products with them in the past and I had sent them all of the verified photo ID and proof of address?

I suspect a few people working in the banking sector are lazy people (or incompetent at worst) instead of doing the job they supposed to be doing themselves, they are using the easiest option, ask people to send them documents.

Is there any more plausible explanation about this? Any comment will be very much appreciated ….

Identity checks have been toughened up dramatically at a lot of banks in the last couple of years. Some banks are stricter than others. ID documents usually need to be current, so just because you had products in the past doesn't mean they can use the old information.

I think you'll find that asking people to send in documents is not the easy option, the easy option is to ID electronically !

It's not laziness or incompetence - it's paranoia. The government has shifted policing of money laundering towards financial institutions some of whom have responded by becoming ultra cautious - perhaps unnecessarily so.

Agreed. The whole thing has got ridiculously out of hand. I even had to give my address to M&S foreign exchange when I swapped 200 EUR cash into GBP cash!

Electronic ID can only confirm an address. Photographic ID can't be done electronically.

Not everyone is on the electoral roll.

I don't really understand your question or why you're asking it. It has to be done, whether electronically or not.
