WTC and CTC...Will you please check this for me?

Hi All,

I work 30 hours a week. My average weekly childcare costs term/holiday time are: £108.00.

I told the Inland Revenue of the change in childcare costs along with the provider when my daughter moved 3 weeks ago. I have double checked twice that they hold the correct information but I am confused and worried that they could be overpaying?

I am seperated from my husband and we live in a rented house just to clarify.

Each week they pay:

£83.00 WTC
£221.00 CTC

I am sure the WTC is correct but I can't understand why CTC is almost twice my average weekly childcare costs. Does it have anything to do with my working 30 hours or being a single parent? Like I have said I checked with the IR today and they confirm that they only have one childminder registered.

Has anyone else had this and what did you do? Thanks.

I just wanted to add that I have tried entitledto.co.uk and that site throws up completely different figures.

  • Had it been underpaid the year before?

manicstreetpreacher, I had a joint claim before and even then we got the bare minimum £545 per year I think? It become a single claim towards the end of last year. I earned £2000 less than the figure they had for last year. I was underpaid but only by £200 or so I they had already reimbursed that in April or May.

  • Can't think of another reason then, I'm sure someone will be along later who knows a bit more about it. It's so confusing, isn't it? When you get the form with the breakdown on it I always feel as though it may as well be written in Chinese for all the sense it makes!

You are not alone...everytime I inform them of a change I get sent the new forms but it would seem you need a degree to understand it. I end up phoning them everytime this happens. Thanls for trying to help though.

  • What are your other circumstances?</P> How many children do you have, is there any disability in the family, what was your income last year/this year (roughly), were you using another provider before this one, and if you were, how much were you paying them?

All of these factors can have an affect on your childcare payments, and its not uncommon for someone to be recieving this level of payment, but let me know what the answers to the above are and I'll try and help more
