Dog off lead

Just a bit of a moan. My jack Russell was attacked a few weeks back and has become quite nervous. There is a lovely lake near where I live where all dogs need to be kept on leads to protect the birds and wildlife - perfect for getting my little jack back to his old self. That was ntil today when I was at the lake and a staffie that was off his lead made a beeline - thankfully the owner was able to grab the staffie in time but why does he think rules aren't applicable to him? Grr!

There's lots of people with dogs of all shapes, sizes and temperament who think the rules don't apply to them. My local park has a dogs on lead rule in certain bits, but it's rarely observed as there's no-one to police it. My (on-lead) last bull terrier was picked on by an off lead Yorkshire terrier - sounds funny but was not in the slightest bit amusing when I know who'd have got the blame if mine had reacted to the provocation. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

We took our two on holiday to the beach last week and the main beach is no dogs allowed and the walkways are dogs on lead only and poo bins every few yards, the doggy beach is a bit further over and away from the main beach.
The amount of people with dogs on the non dog beach and walking dogs off lead on the pathways was phenomenal. Also too many people not cleaning up after the dogs.
Even when a place has gone out of their way to create a nice place for dog owners some still have to do things their own way and spoil it for the rest of us.
My boy had to be muzzled a lot more than we planned because other people were too selfish to follow some basic rules. If their off lead dog had approched him on lead and unmuzzled he/we would have ended up in trouble not the other dog/owners0 -
We were in Cornwall last week and left the beach as there were so many off-lead dogs on the dogs on lead part, OH is very scared of any dog after being attacked when young. Then everywhere we went there were more even the restaurant where we decided to eat,our fault for not checking but it sort of spoiled OH's holiday.#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j
