It is expensive for 18 year old lads car insurance. Even after they take the pass pluss.

www.ecarinsurance.co.uk get mentioned alot to do with young drivers.

The advice is buy a car in Group 1 insurance bracket and take your pass plus.

What kind of car has he got? As Rikki says, he needs to be looking at a group 1 vehicle for the first year or two. Then look to trade up when the NCD is built up a little bit.

I havent passed my test but will be looking to get myself a car within the next year (hopefully:rotfl: ) There was a thread about this not too long ago and a person (cant remeber who it was) said that it isnt worth doing pass plus. They said that the insurance companys wont take that much off their quote for doing it and it actually ends up costing more than the discount you will get.

Im not saying this is rights but the person who said this sounded like they knew their stuff.

Before being told this i was planning on doing my Pass Plus aswell but now i think i will check if its worth it before i bother.

Pass Plus is not just about saving money on your car insurance, its about gaining confidence in your driving.
It includes city driving, motorway driving, driving at night etc. It is with an instructor but totally different from having lessons before your test.

My sons insurance was less after taking his passplus. He did it for the experience and to gain the confidence.

You can have a look at www.parkers.co.uk - click on Insurance and then you can search to see which insurance group a car belongs to.

    For example Group 1

Pass Plus can get you the equivalent of one year's NCB so it can be worth it. As already said it's about experience and confidence. My 17 yr old son also did the Institute of Advanced Motorist's course and test. I feel it really helped and he is a very careful driver who knows what to look out for.
