Natwest daily overdraft charge

Hi All,

I am new to this and hope you can help me?

I have 2 natwest accounts a standard account with a 300 overdraft and a silver account with no overdraft.

Well in March i went into work one day only to be told that the company was bankrupt and i had no job, no warning nothing. So i was jobless and pennyless.

I called everyone i could think of to change direct debits and explain my situation etc.

I forgot to cancel one direct debit and it took me over my overdraft. Since then Natwest have charged me £6 a day plus a few charges of £90. I now owe them £580.

I called them last week to explain my situation and that i now have a new job and i would like to make payments towards the account to clear it. I was told that charges would still be made until September 2014 so even though i was trying to freeze the account and make payments they would still charge me.

They said they work in arrears hence charging me until September. My argument is im calling now in June so surely the last payment would be July?

Anyway they refused to freeze my account, i offered my letter stating i was made redunant due to the business i worked for going ito bankruptcy but they were not intrested.

I asked now that i have a job if i could make payments they said when my wages went into my other account they would just take it in full from that!!! I said i would not be able to live and that would put me back to square one even though i am back working.

Dont get me wrong i know this was an oversite on my part and i want to get this cleared but all the time they are adding daily charges i wont even be making a dent!

How can i stop them taking all of my wages and stop teh daily charges/

Thanks for all your help :

Gemma

Open a bank account elsewhere (outside of the The RBS Group) and get your wages paid into that :)

That will stop them taking your wages, but will result in ongoing charges.

The charges* will stop when you've paid back everything.

    * Except the monthly charges for the silver package account. Simply downgrade it to an account with no monthly fee.

Open an account with a different bank and have your wages paid there instead.

If you are in genuine "hardship" you should also make a formal appeal to the Bank for them to consider freezing the interest charged on your informal overdraft.

Post your Statement Of Affairs (SOA) over at the "Debt Free Wannabe" section of this forum.
  • I dont have another bank to put my wages into.

Also they refuse to freeze my account so although i will be making payments it will still be escalating in cost. Its something i will never be able to get out of.

What do you mean? There are several different banks to choose from.
