Improving credit score with credit card

Options
Hi guys. I know we don't have a credit score as such but want to improve mine and my partners chances of remortgage in a few months. We both have Capital One credit cards which are clear and not used but are thinking about making one purchase each a month then paying in full from bank account. My query is say our statements are issued on 1st of month then if we were to use our cards today and pay them once statement was issued is this the correct way to do it? Sorry if I sound thick it's just I've tried it before and it's never showed up with any balance on credit report so not sure how it helps :o

Yes that is the correct way to do it. Pay after the statement is generated each month (and obviously before the due date). If you set up a DD to pay in full each month then that it will usually be taken around 14days after the statement.

If you pay before the statement is generated then it usually won't appear on your credit file.
