Contact your local Trading Standards Department lof your council, come, ain that you are being o,argued by doorstep sellers who are letting pressure on vulnerable people. If you and your neighbours get together you can ask for your street to be turned into a No Doorstep Selling Zone where notices notices to this effect can be erected on local lamppost s. all tiundomthen is point them to the notices and remind them that breaching it renders them liable to a fine.

I have a sneaking suspicion that charitable collectors are not covered by that zone.

I have put a sign up at my door along the lines of 'No hawkers, charity reps, religious/political reps,.' etc. You can buy them off ebay for a pound or two. The sign is effective.

I did a 2 week stint for a company employed by an energy company to sell gas and electric and we were specifically told to ignore those signs. I hated that job - I quit one day when it was poring down with rain and I was soaked through (in my suit) some guy opened the door and looked so sorry for me and just said, "What are you doing Love, go home" and I burst into tears. I never even went back to the car where my stuff was. The guy who opened the door gave me my bus fare home. That was my first job out of uni. I have since come across the owner of that company working in recruitment making a fortune.
