Interest & bank charges.
How sad does it get?!
Sure we've more weaponry (deactivated, replica, model & fancy dress) than is "normal" along with two wardrobes of clothing that could go into museum displays without a blush, but we're still having fun with them.
(Actually, I need to renegotiate the broadband pronto.)0 -
Most of mine are caused by my ex i was married to a lazy git who wanted things, but was not prepared to put himself out there and work hard to earn the money...he should never have been self employed he had no discipline.. I used to work full time to pay for a family of 4.
I always ensured bills were paid and food on the table. My ex was and still is selfish, so to stop him sulking and being a misery he would buy stuff he wanted using CC I let him.
Then again when he left i did take the my children to my friends villa in Turkey as she was there and invited us over, late notice school hols etc £2k went on CC ...oh well it was a moment of madness, but it was needed and deserved.0 -
..my ex boyfriend bullied and humilated me as much as he could to get the maximum out of money from me then claimed it wasn't his problem. He used to ignore me, get moody and ignore me in company (but be lovely to everyone so people didn't notice). He made me buy him a new tv etc. I tried to get rid of him so many times but he would force me to get back with him.
When I did eventually dump him my sister hated me for it - even now she laughs if I ever mention my debts as she knows exactly what happened.0 -
who ever said it was a waste ? I had a ball spending mine.0

I can really identify with the sulking and selfish behaviour - that's what my ex used to do too.0 -
We had fun spending ours too. The first time round we were young and foolish and just went to the pub for tea every night, bought everyone drinks, bought all the tellies and stuff and all that. We got lucky in that by the time we reached the point where we had to stop, our house had risen in value massively and we had the chance to get another project very cheap so we almost paid everything off on the back of the housing market.
Phase 2 was starting businesses which went well until the credit crunch. We still had some card debt and car loans etc. but I made the mistake of using my own debt to bail out our company when the bank pulled our overdraft overnight. I could so easily have called it a day, told the staff to go home and legitimately blamed it on the bank. But I didn't. Worst decision of my life to be honest. Next thing is the card companies rate jacked me to 29% which I tried to maintain but that took the company down even further. At one point I was drawing £3k a month to pay personal debts and with everything being tight, the business was slower as well and couldn't sustain that. So instead of the business going down in flames, I did. We've still got the business but it's been a very hard 4 years with 3 young kids to raise and both our credit files trashed.
I can see light now though. I suspect all my debts are not enforceable and should soon be able to start putting together some lump sums for settlement offers once I have CCA'd them all.0 -

First boyfriend...all "our" debts were in my name!
Too much "stuff" from Amazon and Ebay
Gadgets, Computers, smoking, social life, bank charges, CC interest, HP
All behind me now, apart from my impulse buys on Amazon.
My last big purchase before i retire next year will be a new camera. Was a 40 a day smoker for 20 years.
Decided to give up, and haven't had a fag for 12 years.
Halfway through losing six stone.
Looking forward to early retirement.0 -
I think mine started when I left home and just spent more than I earned and buying things on HP. Didn't really get bad until I met my ex husband who was an alcoholic. His money went on the booze and my money went on the house. In desperation of keeping the marriage together I brought things, paid for holidays, tv's etc.
Marriage broke up and I found about a loan that ex had taken out of my name which I was left to pick up.
