Hi,
Does anyone else get really annoyed with themselves over how much they've wasted?!! Big and little things, over the years, just money down the drain!!
I was nearly 31 before I had my LBM. :T
I've wasted money:
at Tescos on food and "things for the house"
interest on credit cards
make up I've never used
gimmicks and gadgets
random things on ebay
flights pursing online dating romances
scratchcards for lottery
taxi journeys
wine, wine and more wine to try and forget everything!!!
hangover food
I know I should look to the future but, for a little time, I think it's useful to learn lessons!!
What have you wasted money on and for how long?!
Keep going!
Kirsten

It's funny but I've never been one to really waste money. Sure I've overspent on clothing and shoes once in a while but nothing major.
All my debt has been on a car, decorating my home and recently, a new roof. All quite essential.
What i have kicked myself for is not realising I could overpay on debts - my loans have been for long terms ie 10 years and I just let the direct debit take care of it, never thought about the interest..... and I also should have saved alot more money.Dave Ramsey Fan[/COLOR]0 -
Vet bills for my horses, mainly.
I always try to look forward, not back. Onwards and upwards!0 -
If I could have back the money I have wasted over the years then I could afford a mansion!
With me it is impulse buys so now I try to make myself wait at least 24 hours before I buy most stuff (t'internet is great for that as I can fill a basket then delete it!)
Now if I could just stop myself going down the cake and biscuit aisles in the supermarkets I would be fine.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0 -

I've never had it to waste. I "let life pass me by" while others were borrowing, never having anything in common with people as I didn't have anything, didn't go anywhere, didn't do anything, didn't go out.
Debt sounds like great fun to build up
"And a jolly good time was had by all" ... as they say.0 -
when I first started working in 2004, I 'didn't do' public transport and would take cabs to and from work for around 2-3 years...no idea how much money I wasted doing this!
Also in the beginning of working - clubbing, clothes, narcotics, holidays. ..
When I met my ex in 2008, I stopped going out really, stopped buying clothes, stopped smoking weed and spent all of my money on online games - I reckon since 08 I've spent at least 30k on games.
I had my lightbulb moment so many times over the years but in November last year I got serious about having no debt and by march this year, it was gone. After I got out of debt, I decided I'd give myself £100 for personal spends and even now I find it quite hard to spend - Monday to Friday I spend practically nothing - I buy closer magazine on Tuesday and that's about it...although I did treat myself to a mocha from Starbucks yesterday and felt guilty spending that £3.95
but I don't really spend too much time worrying about it - the past is the past and I can't change it and I did learn my lesson in the end! Now I have nearly 3k in the bank and it feels good not owing anybody anything! ^_^Saved so far - £28,890.97

I paid £750 once for hair extensions - and took them all out after two days.
It took 8 hours to put them in, and took three of us 6 hours to take them out.
I had money, and thought it would last forever so just squandered it really... but that one stands out to me as a Bad Idea now.0 -
Wine, woman, fast cars, living life in the fast lane.
Now the bottle is empty,
the woman has gone,
the cars run out of petrol,
.............................................and I`m more a slow lane driver

I think I've spent way too much on yankee candles in the past - trying not to buy them now.0

Actually, I dont know. Seriously, I have no idea. For the last 6 years at least, I have been taking home thousands above the national average and still somehow, we were always smacking our faces against the overdraft wall every month. I know we did spend £800 on food in one month once, and that probably had been going on for some time, but I cant point to a single big purchase and say that is the source of the trouble. Our clothes are old, our shoes need replacing and always there seems to be some other emergency that needs fixing before we can spend money on ourselves. I truly dont know where it has gone, but I do know (thanks to YNAB) that we ought to have over a £1000 a month 'spare' after all bills and forward plans are paid. At the moment, that is being spent on debt reduction and at this rate, we'll be debt free soon, but it is still sickening to know that this has been the status of our finances for at least the past 6 years. What could we have done with that money if we had been more careful?Debt Free! Long road, but we did it
