The monthly DD won't be "buying VED by the month" - it'll be "buying 12mo VED, and paying on tick", so the same refund-and-SORN requirement will be there as now. It _might_ be more streamlined, though.0

There is a Seat Toledo 2.0L petrol for sale at a local traders for under £1K. Would be an ideal future bangernomic but the £280 tax puts me off. Breaking it down to monthly DD wouldn't be so bad.0

Really? As the tax disk itself will be abolished, there's no reason why it could not be implemented on a month-by-month basis. The monthly DD won't be "buying VED by the month" - it'll be "buying 12mo VED, and paying on tick", so the same refund-and-SORN requirement will be there as now. To be fair, the tender that went out regarding the new VED collection system was all about the direct debit collection method, alluding it to be a way that people will now accept as a collection system for their "annual" tax disc, not converting it to a rent-by-the-month road system.
The tender also mentioned that online was now 60% of the current tax disc purchase model and with PO changes, abolition of the disc itself and enhanced ANPR, there will be millions to be saved each year by the treasury.
I don't think we are generally penny wise and pound foolish though and a few extra pennies from each DD adds up to a very nice, regular tax flow when the chancellor starts talking of annual rises of 99p to your monthly DD.0 -
Mebbe. But it ain't what they're doing. (yet?)Really? As the tax disk itself will be abolished, there's no reason why it could not be implemented on a month-by-month basis.
Premium for buying 6mo goes down from 10% to 5%.
DD purchase of a 12mo is being introduced, with 5% premium.0 -
