credit file help

Options
Hi

Just wondered what it will say on a persons credit file if a company wipes a debt off ?

My friend had some defaulted accounts that were showing on her credit file these have been outstanding for some time (2011) and were all sold to the same debt collection agency .she has mental health issues and is unable to work due to this and has sent the debt collection agency proof of her mental health issues and the company has now sent her a letter listing all her account numbers with them 9 in total and the letter states -

"Having reviewed your situation we have decided to take no further action to recover these debts and your accounts will now be closed"

then next to each account number it says you owe £0.00

so just wondered what it will say on her file as to be honest i am pretty concerned that if all these debts have been wiped off what's to stop her running up more and then asking for them to be wiped again?.

I'd presume all 9 accounts where in default, if so then they shall be marked as 'satisfied', but still stay on her file for 6 years from the default date (Until around 2016/17)

I would agree, the original defaults will stay on there for the remainder of the 6year period.

They might agree to mark those entries on her file to show no balance outstanding, or they may choose to leave her file showing as though the debts are still outstanding.

  • Thanks for the replies yes all the 9 accounts have defaults registered in 2011.

That's good then if they stay there then she cant run up more debts because i am sure sooner or later the companies will refuse to wipe of her debts if she keeps running up more .
