Weekend Away for Mum and Nan

I'm the mum, my mum's the nan!
My ex is taking my girls away for three weeks (long time I know!) and I'm trying to find a cheap holiday for me and my mum.
Only a weekend as she doesn't want to leave my dad too long and because I don't want to take too much off work.
Any ideas? Not even sure if we want to stay in the UK or not as sometimes it's actually cheaper to go abroad!

Too broad - give us a bit of guidance .....
a) what sort of thing are you looking for - sun, sand, nightlife, nature, scenery, walking, shopping, culture, museums etc?
b) what sort of budget do you have ?
c) what dates / time of year ?
d) where are you travelling from and will you be reliant on public transport or do you have a car ?0 -
Yes, sorry, I realised I've been a bit broad, but I don't get out much (single mum etc. haha) and have no clue what we should do.
Mum has mentioned getting a coach somewhere, but I think these are overpriced holidays. Plus I have a car, so could use this if I can find somewhere to park, or it's probably cheaper to go somewhere by train and just book a B&B separately.
I suppose I want to go to a quiet town and just wander about for a couple of days or I quite like the idea of a seaside town, but quiet and relaxing rather than mad and bustling (we live in North London/Hertfordshire, so I suppose somewhere not too far if we are only going for a couple of days).Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

If you want to go oversea, and don't know where to go.
Use MSE flightchecker and see what come up at your nearest airport.0 -
What about Paris or try an over 50's place providing you are old enough the ones without kids I think it is warner or something.0

The Cotswolds has many very pretty towns/villages to wander around. Broadway and Bourton On The Water are just two that I loved but there's many more. (see Cotswolds.com).
If you fancy abroad, myself, sister and mum had a lovely weekend in Seville. (ages 42 - 74). Good size for a weekend, although we went in September; July/August can be very hot.
I also love Barcelona, so much to see and so varied (a city with a beach!) Although I think you may need a couple more days to do it justice.0 -
Isle of Wight? Take the car on the ferry. Lots of choice for accommodation.
Plenty of beaches and attractions. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
Isle of Wight ferries are overpriced for what you get. might as well go along the coast a bit ot Poole/Wareham rather than get a ferry.0
