    Your books are to tell you about your business, how much profit you are making. The way in which you keep your books is determined by the type of business you run.
    If you are primarily on a weekly cycle ie a retail shop , weekly totals would be useful; if yiour business is more of a monthly (invoicing) business then you would keep monthly totals.
    Your business has to report to HMRC on an annual basis always to rthe same date.
    The only thing that is constant is change.
