Just had a random call.. confused

Just had a call from a company claiming they had all the info from my mortgage company (was livingstone mortgages who were a sub prime) and that im entitled to payment protection payment from that mortgage.
They had all my details, amount owed on the loan, both our names and dates we took it out etc. They said they were going to get the details in the post and that they take 33% of the fee but make it up in compensation from charging Livingstone 8% interest.
Im not one for normally falling for cold calls but they had a lot of info on me so makes me wonder how genuine this could be. I didnt even realise i had PPI on my mortgage and that i could claim anything!
So my questions would be (i guess)..
* How can they get such info so easily?
* Is it actually possible to claim the ppi against my mortgage? Im on interest only...
* Should i just bin thier letter and not take it further
Thanks in advance

Very bold of them to admit to breaking the law. That is a breach of the data protection act as your information, apart from lender name, date and amount, is not in the public domain. Lender name, dates and amount appears on land registry and some claims companies buy land registry data and then cold call pretending they know all about your secured loan/mortgage when they dont. They said they were going to get the details in the post and that they take 33% of the fee but make it up in compensation from charging Livingstone 8% interest.
What about the 20% VAT that their "service" applies?* How can they get such info so easily?
Land registry as mentioned. However, no insurance details appear on LR. nor any of the admin related to needs or suitability or anything close to that. So, they are telling lies about the rest of it.* Is it actually possible to claim the ppi against my mortgage? Im on interest only...
most mortgage insurance complaints, including MPPI, fail. Are you actually paying MPPI? If so, were you mis-sold it?* Should i just bin thier letter and not take it further
its a dodgy claims company call. You should never act on these.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. I actually shut off for the first half of the call and was about to put the phone down until they mentioned the mortgage company, dates and values. They even had my partners date of birth as well.
I think they might have said they had got the details from Livingstone directly but as you said... surely this is illegal?
My mortgage was never exactly top end and always seemed a bit cloack and dagger as was sub prime and back then i was quite depserate. I couldnt tell you if i had MPPI, i certainly cant see it in the break down of fees anywhere, it doesnt seem to be mentioned and i definatly didnt sign up to it.0 -

If that actually happened, it would be a data protection breach. There are some companies that have been formed out of ex mortgage broker companies that have data incorrectly or have come into data from ex employees from those companies. Not saying that is the case here but it has happened.I couldnt tell you if i had MPPI
The vast majority of MPPI is set up with monthly direct debits from your current account.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Not much I can add although it is strictly speaking only the date and the name & address of the lender we register.
The amount secured may be available from the mortgage/charge document submitted when registered and/or the application form used may state it but this can vary depending on who the lander is and/or whether the mortgage was a single transaction or whether it formed part of something larger for example a purchase and mortgage.
The finer details are perhaps irrelevant to this thread but it may be worth noting just in case others think that the amount is easily available“Official Company Representative
