British Airways lets you choose premium seats, and then it shows you the price of your chosen seats, following which you can make an informed decision whether or not to pay.
Why does Thomson take payment before showing the customer which seats can be chosen for the price paid? The way Thomson does it reminds me of those dodgy closing down sales where the salesman says to the crowd "Who'll give me £50 for what's on my mind?", and it then turns out to be a load of crap.0 -
Thomsons really seem to have messed this up this year.
On a recent flight, we never pay for seats, my wife and I were sat together Aisle and middle, while numerous families with young children were split up all over the place.0 -
Thomson also use Norwegian for some flights. On the Thomson website it allows you to select seats and takes your money.When you get to the Norwegian check in they say that is a waste of time as they do not allow booking on these flights. They say they have told Thomson but they have not stopped the system taking money from passengers. So Thomson take money for something they cannot provide. Can I get my money back? No. All I get , after over a month since this was reported to the rep it still has to be allocated for someone to 'look into it'.To be clear they took money for something they could not provide and they knew this.Any reputable company would apologise and give you your money back immediately. Not Thomson. Their customer service is a system of making excuses and avoiding the issue. They have lost a customer of several years and I hope this warning helps others to make a choice as to which company they book with.0

I would have contacted Thomson and requested my money back that I paid in good faith for a service they knew full well they couldn't provide.
Maybe consider posting on Thomson's social media pages.
I fully agree with the OP's point about not being told before paying that you can't select middle and aisle seast.
I don't know why this thread moved on to 'parents sitting with their kids' though as that is a separate issue.
'Thomson select a seat' seems to get a lot of flak on Tripadvisor too.0
