Hi
I just joined the forum group today and tried to post a new car insurance thread about an hour ago ( 11pm, 18 June) but it still hasn't appeared. It was a relatively long thread and my wife and I took a long time reviewing it to make sure we weren't breaking any forum rules. Does anyone know if we would have been logged out for taking too long to submit it?
Cheers

I'm afraid so. If it's not posted instantly, I'm afraid it's gone. Copy it into the copy and paste buffer next time, then if it vanishes, you can repost.0

Oh god - I'm talking to myself!
Does anyone know if there's any way of recovering the post I tried to make earlier? My wife and I have had an appalling time making a car insurance claim (the other side have admitted liability "without prejudice") and we spent ages drafting the post referred to above.
Any help please?0 -
Hi nobbysn*ts
Thanks. Lesson learned. My wife and I are on a steep learning curve at the moment.
Pardon my ignorance, but what is the copy buffer?0 -

If I am typing anything other than a short post, I usually type it in a text editor (Word, Apache Open Office, Wordpad etc) and save it in a temporary file regularly. I then copy and paste it into MSE (or wherever I am posting) when complete.
Thus, if MSE crashes or I accidentally press the wrong button or something goes wrong, I haven't lost the work.
The "copy buffer" has its uses but isn't as safe as saving in a temporary file.
Like many of us, you have unfortunately learnt a painful lesson the hard way. I've done similar in the past.
I hope you get your insurance situation sorted out.0 -
As above if its a long post write it in notepad or wordpad 1st and paste it into the box.
Another site i use has a habit of timing out when you click post. So i always copy the text in the box 1st. If it works then carry on. If it fails to upload then CTRL +V and try again until it does work.
Another issues is that some forums have post or reply on the left and others on the right. The other button maybe more options or cancel.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Thanks all for the advice. I've now done it in Word and posted successfully - sort of.
The formatting makes it almost unreadable. Sorry.0 -
