I had the same experience. Picked up 1 & 2 when they were both cheap on a Steam sale. Tried the first for about half an hour but I hated that combat system so much I just couldn't be bothered carrying on.

The Witcher 3 - soon to be released, will be absolutely amazing.

Essentially, W3 is one of the main reasons I bought an Xbox One.
