I used Keim Mineral Paint "Lotexan" - spray on outside of chimney after ensuring that any loose material or render (which rain could get behind) is removed beforehand. Brilliant, effective product which penetrates to provide deep weatherproofing, but isn't cheap. Ideally the chimney should also be repointed beforehand if it's elderly/loose/crumbly. Not hugely expensive but best done by experienced tradesperson with roofing ladders.0

I would inspect key areas first before applying any material. Check the flashings, pointing, brickwork, flaunching etc first - all straightforward for a good roofer.0
