Should we pay it off?..

Assuming you've paid June 2014, leaves you 18 months left until November 2015.
£49*18=£882 if you pay it monthly as you are. (Again assuming it doesnt increase further)
or
£600/18=£33.33 on average + £12 for the new pay as you go = £45.33/month.
The difference is £3.67/month or £66.06 over the 18 months.
Do you have a phone you could use on a Sim only contract and will it provide the services you need on the £12/month option.Sealed Pot Challenge:

Thanks for the reply..
The 12 a month, this not set in stone as with giff gaff so can stop or decrease the amount as needed.
I was thinking that £49.86 a month reduced to £ 10-12 would be a lot better.
The phone is ours and also sim free0 -
You'd be better just asking to drop a tariff, plead poverty, a few tears on the phone.

£49 a month for a phone contract !!! must be an iphone with a trillion free texts and a zillion free mins which you don't use and by the time your contract is up you will have paid about £11000

But it wouldn't be reduced, you would be paying the £12 on top of the amount to get out of the contract.0 -
The psychological benefit of paying stuff off that is hanging around your neck is not to be underestimated.
I don't expect much sympathy from fellow posters here because the pennies don't add up. But the win of paying it off and having an extra £37 each month gets my vote. It will boost your morale too.
However, I would look for something that you are paying interest on to pay off first if there is anything. Interest is dead money.BSC No 248

Will they not? Did you tell them you couldn't afford it and would have to stop paying if they didn't lower the cost?
Anyway, lensman makes a very valid point and £600 plus your new £12 a month for 18 months costs you what? About £820.
Paying the £49.86 for the next 18 months is £900 (ish).
So maybe it is worth it. But someone check my maths please....I've assumed 18months left on the contract.

£49 - ouch!
if you continue monthly would you still need a landline?
I now pay my landline a year upfront to get it cheaper ( have it for broadband), and never use the landline, the mobile inclusive minutes covers all calls.
is it an expensive handset you could sell and pop SIM into a cheapie phone (usually someone in my circle has an old phone sitting in a drawer:))
however, I totally understand the pay it off scenario also,
good luckLIVE SIMPLY * GIVE MORE * EXPECT LESS * BE THANKFUL0
