Replacing window with French door and fitting lintel
I had a Juliette balcony fitted and replaced a window with French doors. It was pretty straight forward for a competent builder. We kept the doors to the same width as the window so we didn't need to hack the wall about above the opening only cut the wall below. Planning wasn't an issue as the window overlooks a field of cows and they don't seem to mind!

Sorry ars... oops, I mean sorry R Soles.. catnik/catnip? I wondered why all the local moggies like my new window!
And apropos of nothing, I had another mate who lived in a National park... built a massive rear extension without troubling to involve the authorities or building control as he thought they had better things to worry about and on the grounds that didn't plan to sell prior to them carrying him out in a box...
Mind you, he didn't believe in house insurance either, on the grounds that if it burnt down, he'd just rebuild with the money saved from not paying premiums!
