Cooker Keeps Tripping Switch

Options
Recently had an extension built on the back of my house to create a bigger kitchen. Kept our old gas cooker rather than buying a new one.

Anyway the electricians fitted a new fuse box for the new room including a switch for the electric ignition button for the cooker.

A few weeks ago this switch kept tripping the fuse box (found it was this switch by process of elimination) then after a couple of days the problem stopped as quickly as it had started.

However it has now returned and keeps tripping the fuse box again. What could be causing this and is it something serious?

I rent from a private landlord so gave him a call.

After he spoke to the guy who did the electrics he informed me it was likely an ignition problem so he is providing me with a handheld ignitor because it'llcost too much to take it all apart to fix the problem.

As long as iI leave the switch off its not likely to cause me any problems is it?

Is it an electric hob? The kind with metal plates rather than glass? I had this with old cooker wherever anything boiled over or got wet from cleaning. It'd go away once it had dried.

Both the oven and the hobs are gas. The electric switch literally just powers the spark for igniting the flame.

The first time it happened the fuse tripped during the night. This time around I cooked tea and everything was fine. Then a few hours later I went to use the kettle and the fuse had tripped.
