Anyone know much on VW Beetles?
Wife is after something a bit different and has seen a 2000 plate Beetle that we're viewing later this week.
Apart from the usual is there anything I need to take a particular good look at or these suffer from any known issues etc so I go fully armed?
It it helps its a 2.0 automatic.
Thanks as usual

They are a MK4 golf in drag essentially.
I believe the 2ltr version has a reputation of being a bit of a thirsty pig and an auto won't help that situation much either.
Sounds like a £1500 car to me.0 -
If you do short journeys then your going to get less than 30mpg average.
On a run you will get more but its never going to be that efficient.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
the 2.0 engine is thirsty, my BIL mk4 golf 2.0 GTI would produce around 17-22MPG short trips, on Motorway trips approx. 30-38MPG.
look out for worn wishbones bushes and ball joints like the mk4 golf the beetle has inherited the same faults, throttle bodies can be problematic and cost a bunch to have put right, make sure power windows work theyre a nightmare to get fixed fi the window reg fails or the plastic clamps snap away.0 -

What I know about VW Beetles.
1) Their drivers usually drive solely in lane 2 of the motorway
2) Their drivers never ever thank you for letting them out etc
3) Their drivers never let you out0 -
In response to dacouch
I drive a VW Beetle. I hate people that hog the middle lane, I have never done it, overtake straight back in. .
I always thank people for letting me out, few do let you out.. However, this doesn't stop me from letting people out, I do it more that most people !0 -
