Limited time on the Electoral Roll

Hi everyone!

For months my Noddle Credit Report has been telling me that I've had limited time on the Electoral Roll. I read up and found information that said you had to be on it for 6 years for it to stop having a negative effect on your credit score.

So, I checked Experian, CallCredit and Equifax to check up on it - and it said I'd only been on the Electoral Roll for 1 year. I know this isn't correct, and wondered if anyone else has experienced this?

  • Hi Olliegami

With the frequency that people move about nowadays, I think its quite far fetched to think that lenders will only view VR info as positive if you have lived at the address for six years or more. The VR is really about verifying your ID. As long as you're on the VR, that's easily the most important thing, although you may find some lenders will give you extra points in their decision scores if you have a long unbroken spell on the VR - it shows stablility.

In regards to your second point, are you saying that you expected a longer registration period at your current address showing? If so, contact the CRAs and ask them to check the registers received for previous years at your address, as it may be the case that your council provided the VR data under a slightly different format of the address, which is different to that you confirmed when you ordered a report. They will be able to find this and give you report with it showing.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks for the reply.

    Remember

    - As you've only been on the Electoral Roll at your current address for a limited time it makes it more difficult to verify your identity.
    - The longer you are registered on the Electoral Roll at this address, the less of an impact this will have.

I've been on the Roll since 2010, so I don't see how it would still affect it. I'm going to find out who I need to contact.
  • You're welcome.

Yes, I have a vague memory it told me the same thing when I looked at Noddle, and at that time had a 3 year registration showing on the Electoral Roll. Indeed, just one month after my VR was updated on my report after moving in, I was approved for a credit card. It really is just about linking you to your address.

If I was you I wouldn't take any further action, remember this is advice from Call Credit on how they think a lender will view you, in my experience I would be completely stunned if a lender turned someone down for 'only' being on the electoral roll for 4 years.
  • Hi Olliegami,
