How much do gas suppliers usually charge to change a normal credit gas meter to a prepay to-up card meter?
I had gas supply run to property last year and have just had a meter put in the gas box by SSE (Ebico tariff) ready for when I get boiler installed soon.
I should have asked for a prepay meter then but didn't think.

They'll all do it for free.
More importantly, why would you want one?0 -

I want to monitor how much gas I use without having any shock bills this coming winter. Least if I top it up I know it's all paid for.0 -

If you go on the cheapest DD tariff, it will cost you less. PPM's are more expensive. It sounds like you have your mind made up, but it wouldn't be very MSE of me not to point it out!0 -
If you read the meter regularly and punch the numbers into a spreadsheet you can see how much it is costing you and adjust your usage accordingly without the risk of the credit running out in the middle of a sub zero winter's night / cooking the Christmas turkey0
