Hello.
Do you still need to show a valid certificate of insurance when purchasing a car tax disc at the post office.
Just had my reminder and it makes no mention of insurance certificate being provided just the reminder itself and current MOT paper.
Had to in the past.
Thanks.

Thanks for that.
Wish it was a yes or no but I understand.
I have got insurance but an online version but I'm finding it impossible to print the certificate off.
I have contacted the insurer but you know what their like-piece of A4 £10 please!0 -

The Post Office web site specifically omits the insurance certificate from the list of required documents.
The system changed about a year ago so it is not surprising people are not aware as it is different from last time.
I did mine online anyhow. Easy enough.0 -
The answer is definitively maybe!
I bought tax today, and my car was (and still is) NOT showing up as insured on AskMID despite transferring insurance over to it on the 15th June.
So I printed off the certificate and took it with me.
I handed it, along with the V5C and fresh MOT cert (which had been carried out no more than 90 minutes earlier) over the counter and she said she doesn't need it. I explained that it wasn't showing up, and she said their own system checks and won't progress to payment until it's all good, and if it's not showing up, at this point they'll manually check the certificate (and perhaps make a phone call? who knows).
Turns out AskMid wasn't right ... and I managed to buy my tax without her even looking at the insurance doc (or indeed the MOT)0 -

genuinely interested - how do you transfer car insurance on a Sunday? The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
Online ... I used the QuoteMeHappy online portal and did a change of vehicle. I'd sold my other car earlier that same day.0
