Welcome Finance PPI in 1999

Hello there, am new to the forum.

I am currently in the process of contacting my creditors from late 1990's - mid 2000's to see if I had PPI.

So far RBS have provided me with all my details and sent me a form to complete.

I have also contacted Welcome and they gave me 3 loan account numbers and confirmed the loan I had in 1999 had PPI on it. However the chap on the phone said I can't make a complaint for mis selling as they do not know who the Insurer was then. He said from 1st June to 2000 to 2003 it was Aviva. He said prior to 2000 they were only the PPI broker?

He said if they can't trace the Insurer then I have no chance of them looking into my complaint.

I thought that the complaint would be against Welcome anyway and not the Insurer - does it matter who the Insurer was?

My premium was £216 and it was a single premium. I remember not taking out the PPI on subsequent loans as I knew back them it was a pile of rubbish, but my first loan I was told I would need it to get the loan.

Can someone help me with this? Should I just go ahead with a SAR anyway and see if the name of the Insurer is on the documents? Welcome said they wouldn't be noted.

Many thanks!

Welcome weren't regulated which is why you've been told to find out the insurer.
The insurer has no liability for the sale.
Spendng £10 to possibly or possibly not find out is up to you.

  • Thanks. I'll send a SAR anyway and wait and see.
