Hi I'm in desperate need of advice!!
I recently got married and we are wanting to open a joint account as it will make life a lot easier! My husband has a current account with Halifax, so we went last night and tried to make it into a joint account t, the application was denied!!! I know this is
Down to me as I previously got myself into money problems, after 5 years I finally got myself debt free last year! I currently bank with think money, but just want a normal current account with a debit card, no over draft, no cheque book, nothing! But what I need to know is am I going to keep getting denied a current
Account? Can anyone recommend a bank or
Building society that don't make you feel like crap because of past mistakes? I so t have any CCJ's, I wasn't bankrupt, and I don't
Receive any benefits.

Have you had a look at your credit file to see what is on there, such as late payments or defaults? You might be debt free now but if you have defaults on your file, it will be a while before they drop off.

If it's only one of you who has a bad history, any joint financial product will link your histories and and will seriously affect the one with a god history. At the same time having a joint applicant with good history is unlikely to help you with getting accepted.
You should have asked before applying, as even the application itself created the association, that, I believe, still can be broken while you don't have joint accounts.
Consider getting a credit card on your husband's name and making you a second cardholder. This doesn't involve checking you and doesn't create a link. Just beware that a CC is for spending only, not for cash.0 -
I was advised that Barclays and Co-Op both do basic back accounts with no overdraft, not sure if they automatically come with debit cards, though.0

Hi Beanie,
I have checked my credit report and it's really low, I know all my bad history will be there for 6 years and I have a credit card now to try and help increase my score, so I'm doing all the things I've been advised to do to try and increase my score, I now just wanted to take another step away from my debt past and get a normal everyday bank account to also try and help.0 -
The Nationwide Cash Card account has a visa debit card & is only a I.D check!0

Nationwide were good with me when I was in the financial !!!!. Their cash card is actually a very useful Visa debit card. No overdraft or cheque book as you say you don't need them anyway.
Once your credit file is clean you'll go back to being offered pretty much anything you want (trust me, I know!) except for American Express - who have promised me they will hate me until the day I die.Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.0 -
Thank you!! I'll give them a go!!0
