Does this Situation apply to Lettings Agencies?

Hi, I'm currently getting ready to claim charges back from HSBO, but I also have a problem with my landlord's agents, who have been charging me late payment fees upwards of £17, whilst I was awaiting a Housing Benefit claim. This has put me into a cycle of charges between the bank and the agency which has only caused me further debt, and which I'm struggling to get out of months afterwards. Obviously I'm not at all happy about this, so I'm curious if I would be able to claim these charges from the Agency in a similar fashion to the bank?

Yes they are penalty charges, you are entitled to claim them back

Not sure I agree with you there as its the Letting Agency the OP wants to claim from. You would need to ask them to prove that the £17 charge is disproportionate to the work they do.
