Hi,

I got a letter this morning saying I have been put into the Support Group category, which is great news as I've been worrying about the letter coming through door for weeks now.

I suffer from a small heart condition which effects my heart rate when doing activities, such as walking etc I also suffer from depression/anxiety, now I am a little worried, not sure if I'm just being paranoid, I have found out that my girlfriend of a long time is pregnant, I suffer from really bad anxiety and don't tend to go, I am worried if the ESA find out that she is pregnant that they will stop my ESA because they could make assumptions that I am fit to work, could this happen?

Hi I don't think it will make any difference to your claim, doesn't mean because your having a baby your fit for work.
Can I ask you how long u have waited to be put in the support group? I've sent my form a couple of week ago and been worrying since

    Thank you.

When you say form, do you mean the questionnaire where you explain your illness?

Yes the esa50 where you have to explain everything. Just a thought my Friends partner claims esa and DLA and they had 3 children :)

Once you send it off normally takes a little while to hear back, well it did for me. I went onto ESA in October last year and only just got my medical assessment last month, then today I got a letter telling me if I was either being placed in the Work Programme Group or Support Group. It can be different for some people, I've heard people send the ESA50 off and get placed in the Support Group straight away, this is normally because there's been enough evidence to support there claim and from your doctor to where you don't need to attend a medical assessment until your re-accessed again.

Just make sure you provide as much evidence as possible and write everything in detail.

    Hope that helps a little.

the DWP cant stop you from starting a family which ever way you choose to do it id not worry about that at all

well done for being placed in the support group too

if you condition effects you on a daily basis you might want to consider making an application for PIP too i know a few people who have PIP due to there heart condition and also for there depression the time scale is months for a medical and longer for a decision but it might be something worth thinking about

If walking a little way makesr hrart worse, then def apply for PIP. It will take ages, but the sooner you get the form in the better.

Thank you, I will. Do you get paid like you do on ESA until you await a medical?

No unfortunately. (Not unless you get its current version DLA that is.)
  • Hello, my husband is on ESA, since 2012, he has been battling with the DWP to be placed in the support group. He has a genetic heart condition, as well as having kidney transplant, and due to two major operations within just over 18 months of each other (heart valve/root & kidney), suffered badly with depression.
He finally got to tribunal yesterday, after being adjourned once already because they did not have all the relevant documentation. The tribunal have finally agreed to place him in the support group.
Just to assure you, my husband is also on DLA and has been since his heart op. You have got to state the worse case scenario of daily life.
Also, we have four children between us, with another on the way in 8 weeks, they have not questioned about how many children we have.

I have bolded this part as it wrong advice. You must give an accurate account so if you have some days which aren't as bad then you need to say so. .......................................
