Plug change on a Dyson

I need to change the plug on my Dyson. As the plug is fused shut I'm planning to cut it off, strip the wires and attach a new plug. The plug I've got is a 3 amp plug off a handheld kitchen whisk...will this be suitable? I've just read online that Dyson's have a 13 amp plug, so I'm worried the 3 amp won't be any good?

My Dyson DC04 has a label on it saying the max. power is 1200 watts. Divide that by 240 volts and you get about 5 amps, so a 3 amp plug would not be suitable.

Have a look at the power rating label on yours to check the wattage. If it's more than 750 watts, a 3 amp plug won't do.

if the plug isn't damaged, change/(check)the fuse, not the plug

I can only assume the plug is in some way damaged as this is the only reason I can think to change it.

The fuse on a Dyson plug can be changed by using a small screwdirver to lever off the fuse cover.

Just swap the fuses between the old and new plug.

If the plug is OK and the fuse has gone you just need a new fuse.

Of course if the fuse has gone, the question will be why?

you don't buy a 3a, 5a or 13a plug they are all the same it's the fuse that's different

Anything above 700W should have a 13A fuse fitted, below 700W is 3A. Manufacturers standardised on these 2 values a few years ago and dropped the 5A fuse

5A fuses should no longer be used although you may find them in old appliances.

Any Dyson is going to have a motor of more than 700W. Which model is it? For example, the DC07 is 1400 or 1600W.

    700w/240v = 3amp fuse
    700w/230v = 5amp fuse

13 amp is way too big
