Best way to improve cresit score

Hi there i have created quite a lot of personal debt over the past six years. Whilst i have always serviced the debt correctly the sheer level of debt has given me a poor credit rating. I have just come in to some money that will approximately settle half of it. I want to then get a good personal loan to pay the rest off along with my wifes over a ten year period. Can you please tell me what will be the best way to pay off, to improve my credit rating. Should i settle a bit of everything i.e overdraft, credit card, store card. Or should i just pay one large amount of one debt?
thanks

Pay off the highest rate debt first. But I would also pay off your overdraft if you tend to live in that.

What zx81 said - this will improve your credit worthiness with mainstream companies for certain products from having lower debt. You don't have a credit score though, so cannot improve this.
