That would be right, the VED would be cheaper.0 -
"I got stopped for no road tax last November and received the court summons on may 19th and had since forgotten about it. I received a letter from the Court today with a fine, I had missed the court date on the 11th and as a result my fine has exploded to £548 (£400 fine, £58.34 back duty and £90 costs) for no road tax from June til November last year.
Do you honestly expect anyone to believe that you received a court summons on the 19th May and that you totally forgot about having to attend court just over 3 weeks later, especially as you have already lied about this matter.
I haven't moved address in 15 years, and have received absolutely zero contact from the DVLA or any Court in reference to this conviction.
Hopefully someone from the South West Devon court service has seen this thread or will have it passed on to them in due course.0 -
There's no point asking for advice and leaving out vital details.
SDs are for people whose invitations to court got lost in the post, not for dullards who forgot about them.
Your penalty for forgetting about it is to receive a fine unadjusted for income.0 -
A bit of a typo there Cornucopia!Cornucopia wrote: »There's no point asking for advice and [STRIKE]leaving out[/STRIKE] lying about vital details.

And I fully agree with GM who thought it unlikely that anyone would just forget about being summonsed to attend court.0 -

It doesnt really work on afford.
You can buy an old banger and be paying £500 a year.
A brand new car and be paying £00 -
I've no idea I'm sure you can tell us?
But I do know that nationally the government takes three times as much in motoring taxes as it spends on the roads.

From the IAM site linked to above.

VED is a tax. Its not a charge, a fee or a toll paid in return for a service.
Institute of advanced motorists?. Institute of ignorant motorists may be more appropriate.
