BG again -Don't understand why replaced bill is not lower
The latest instalment in my long running saga with BG is that I asked them to change the bill to essentials tariff ( which it should be on). However the total bill remains the same, whereas I am thinking it should be lower (i.e lower tariff).
BILL 1
Click on picture to see full size
rates used 24/02/07 - 12/03/07 16.229 pence
rates from 12/03/96 13.795 pence
Both standard tariff

BILL 2
rates used 24/02/07 - 12/03/07 16.439 pence what tarif is this ?
rates from 12/03/96 13.492 pence - presume essential tariff

Essentials tariff is supposed to start 12th March. So why has the rate from 24th Feb - to 12th March gone up on second bill. Also the rates on essential tariff leaflet are a low lower than 13.492 pence.
Does anybody have a list of standard rates - seeboard area ?
You may wonder why I am querying it as it is such a small amount but it is just part of a long running saga with BG.

The essentials tariff is the same as the standard tariff. You just get a dd discount even if you don't pay by dd. You are only eligable if you are over 60. I'm not sure if they discount the unit rate, or give the discount off the bill (which is how they do the dd discount).
BG's current standard rates are all on their website, however the the ones from that period will have vanished.0 -
As far as I recall, the discount for the essentails tariff is applied in a lump sum, not off each kWh or on each bill.
My info comes from the pay as you go side, so it mught work differently on quarterly meters.
Does it say that you are on the essentials tariff on the front of the bill.
Don't have the details handy, sorry0 -

I have the standard tariffs for both periods and essentials tariff leaflet but can't really see how they have applied the tariff, i.e in unit rate or bulk discount etc.
The essentials tariff leaflet states 12.376 pence per kwh inc vat, which is lower than any figure shown on either bill.
Does not make sense why the 16.229 rate has gone up to 16.439.
No it does not say essentials tariff on bill, but it looks like they made a change to say as if pay by dd.
It does not help either that I can no longer access bill online since new website launched.
The gas bill however is pretty clear. Says essentials tariff on bill and unit rate matches those on standard tariff - 10.3%(i.e discounted unit rate), and also matches those on essentials tariff leaflet which are only quoted inc vat.
Applying the same logic however to electric bill does not seem to work.
Looks like yet another phone call - need a cup of tea first before I can face that again.
I think it may just be simpler to pay this bill, initiate switch and write a letter of complaint about last years worth of problems.0 -
Tried phoning BG to query above bills.
Staff could not access the earlier replaced bill so could not really understand what I was trying to ask about the tariffs.
Could not access the pricing system either, so could not even see what essential tariff should be. Eventually got into pricing system but wanted to check with her supervisor in order that she was sure she gave me correct info so is going to ring back in about 5 days !
She went into online system and said that although it says on essentials tariff it also says qtryly cash/chq customer cannot register at this time so she not really sure what it is being charged at.
Meanwhile the red bill will be due about now !
what a joke !0 -
