Credit Card With Hotel

Hi,


We have booked a short break and given credit card details, but no payment yet, to confirm the booking. We have now read some dreadful reviews about the hotel and I know we should have read them first!


We will inspect the rooms and facilities before checking in but if we decide the hotel is not acceptable, how do we stop them making a cancellation charge on the credit card.

You don't and can't, you now have a legally binding contract with them, if part of that contract is to cover losses from your credit card, which it usually is with hotels, then they will take the money.

You can then sue them if they fail to provide the service they have agreed to if you believe you have a case. For this they will have to fail to give the service booked, may not be an easy thing to do if you just walk out and don't even give them a chance.
