Err. I think most people (certainly all the weddings I've been to), have people dancing to the band instead of having a disco.

We had 3 sets from the band (45mins each iirc) and played like half an hour of ipod songs between each of them...and before and after.

Each to their own eh? :p What a boring world if we were all the same etc. etc....

Personally I've only been to one wedding with a band, and that was just friends of the bride and groom and they only played a few songs before having a disco. I was just making the OP aware that there are other options and nothing is obligatory (particularly when it involves spending hundreds of pounds), as it can all seem very daunting when the wedding planning first starts, and the idea that you 'absolutely have to have' this that and the other, (or face having the world's worst wedding) is all-pervading.

OP, are you having your marquee somewhere other than your back garden/field etc? If so, whoever's field/garden it is might be able to help?
  • the mother in law to be, has a caravan park next to the family home, its a lovely flat field, with views out onto the beach.
so we are having the marquee there as there is ample room for pagoda/marquee/catering tent etc.
and he mums idea of entertainment for the guests was to get the local choir in :)
which might work for the elder generation that will be in attendance. but I cant see all the youngsters liking it and getting onto the dancefloor while they are belting out some church classics

Aww that sounds lovely, and very personal! :)

Good luck with choosing your entertainment, it can be difficult to please everyone all of the time, but that is your challenge! If you have any other questions then the wedding board is very helpful.

Not sure how far in North Wales you are but an old work colleague has a band - Audiopimps and we hired them for a party in Wrexham. Cost a bit for travel/food but well worth it. Google them and if you get in contact say Sharon recommended them.

Not sure how much they charge now but they were around about your ball park figure but I know that they are v v busy

OP, that is not a bad price for a band as my sister got married 2 years ago and paid more than double that for a four piece band to do a three hour set (including breaks).

The best way to check out bands would be to check pub and club listings and go to see them. If you like the band you can approach them in one of their breaks to see if they have your wedding date available.
  • cheers Susan,
the only thing is that we live down in Cardiff so checking out local bands is a bit difficult. trying to google as much as I can, found a few more local bands today, so will try and see if they can provide a quote more affordable. its a long shot, but you don't get anywhere in life without asking.

Look for someone local! We used a young band who did local gigs, they were brilliant, played stuff everyone knew and loved and charged £350 for them doing 2 x 45 min sets and DJ-ing after :)
