O/S Daily Thread Sunday 15th June 2014
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Good morning everyone

Can't believe it's Monday already, where do weekends disappear to so fast?
DH is on the home strait for the first lot of marking, it should be finished and posted by Wednesday .... just in time for standardisation to start on the second lot. Oh well, we need to think of the money and paying the car insurance. Have just had a quote for the house insurance and will be doing some shopping around as I think they are having a laugh!
Better get a move on so will leave with usual well wishes for sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or want them. Keep well and safe and have a lovely day

Lovely and sunny this morning, shame I'm off to work

Sweet and sour chicken for tea tonight with egg fried rice
If the weather is still nice I shall go for a walk when I get hone from work , must take advantage of the good weather
Have a good day everyone xx0 -
Morning - it's very bright in Glasgow!
I've had a lie in :j as I'm off to Crieff this morning, and tomorrow morning too. As I have a well ordered morning routine and normally leave the house at 6.00a.m. I'm at a bit of a loose end this morning.
Am looking forward to the drive as everything is green and lush and sunny.
No real plans for food...
Hope everyone is at top notch today.0 -
Good Morning chums, well DD had her op. eventually on Saturday night and as it was keyhole she was allowed home yesterday which was great and she is recovering at home now.
I did go on my spa break and had a great time and eldest DD kept me informed at regular intervals that she was OK and what was happening at the hospital so I didn't worry about her (as if
:):))
youngest DD arrived at Thame and booked in.Its a lovely hotel and we had a very enjoyable stay.My nephew arrived at lunchtime and took us on a smashing tour around Oxford and all my old haunts that I hadn't seen for almost 50 years.A real trip down memory lane, but gosh how the place has changed over the years. The centre is more recognisable than the outskirts
:) DD loved seeing the colleges and buildings. We also went to Wolvercote cemetery where along with J.R.R. Tolkein my late sis-in-law is buried. In Thame cemetery Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees is buried so we went there for a short look around .In the church there was an orchestra practising which we listen to for awhile Its a beautiful old place and very peaceful.
We had our spa treatment at the hotel and I had the most amazing massage for my clapped out old joints which was gorgeous
:) a super meal in the evening then fell into bed about 10 in time to start watching the England footie game .Half time, neither of us could keep awake so footie took a back seat and I slept like the dead.
Up early enough on Sunday morning to enjoy a swim and sauna then a very hearty breakfast(the food was delicious )Then after checking out I drove to Pangbourne College where we met my nephew again and his two sons. The youngest sings in the choir, and we went into the chapel where it was Falklands Memorial Day and the service was very nice.Met and saw lots of veterans and had lunch at the college with the two young men and my nephew. The youngest (Sebastian) still attends there, and his elder brother (Louis) is off in September to Melbourne for a year long student exchange. What smashing young men they are and they made my DD and I so welcome. The boys and girls who attend the college were all very smart in their No. 1's uniforms and very polite and helpful to all the visitors. They nearly all have the same rank as midshipmen, even the smaller children( they start at about 13) Beautiful place and the Falklands chapel inside is shaped like an upturned boat and the window over the altar is so well worth a look as its also shaped in the pointed shape of a ships bow. Finally left to come home late afternoon and can't believe how quickly the time went and how much we had packed into such a short time. DD enjoyed her weekend and like myself loved seeing family and new sights never seen before. The weather was kind which helped, Oxfordshire is such a pretty county.
But now its back to reality and normality
and the school run this morning. After which I shall pop up to see my eldest DD and take her something nice and have lots of tea and sympathy for her appendix op.
:)
Bless her she was so lucky that my DGD Holly insisted that she went to the Drs,apparently it could have ruptured at any moment as it was very inflamed.Still now its onwards and upwards and she can only get better.
Hope everyone had a good weekend, I'm looking forward now to August when we will all be off to the Isle of Wight for our annual holidays.
Have a good day everyone what ever you are doing
Cheers chums

Good morning everyone
It is hubby's first day back at work today after his op and he was really happy to be going
. He'd forgotten how boring it is at home just messing around on his computer. I am a bit sad to be on my own again but I have plans to clean, cook and tidy without him under my feet :rotfl:
The girls are getting a bit tired now towards the end of term and are really looking forward to the summer break. DD14 is going camping on the weekend with my eldest DD and the grandkids as she is old enough to help out with the childcare. They are off to Woodlands in Dartmouth which is fab as there is loads to do there.
Today I am going to be making Spanish Chicken again from the Hairy Dieters cookbook. I have found their books absolutely brilliant and use them all the time. A lot of ladies on the Weightwatchers forum swear by them too.
I haven't had a look at the flylady thread yet where I am an avid lurker  but I really need to tackle the living room. I need to swap the settees round which is going to take some doing but has to be done. I shall be flexing my muscles and so on without hopefully popping a vein or anything lol.
Well that's all my waffle for now, hope everyone manages to have a great day. Take care xx0 -
Morning all,
Looks to be a nice day here again no washing to go out though, I shall have a search round tonight and see what I can find.
DD has landed in Zante so I can relax a bit now (unless I think what they are getting up to !
) its very quiet here without her but very tidy !
Off to work for me today then spag bol for dinner and a trip to the post office to post yesterdays Ebay parcels.
I have woken up with a sore throat and streaming nose, how horrible is it having colds when the weather is so nice ? seems so wrong some how.
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Now light, dull and overcast, but dry – and temperature has really dropped.
DH up and getting ready for work.
Lunch yesterday was delicious and there was clean plates all round.
We got up and went out reasonably early yesterday and when we got to the outlaws they had gone out, so we left FIL’s card and prezzie in their conservatory. They very rarely go out, especially at the weekend so I was concerned and got DH to ring them later in the morning and they were then home. DH said we’d been round but you weren’t at home, and MIL just said “your sister’s been round” and didn’t make any reference to our card and prezzie, and she then started – so DH put the phone down. Ohh deep joy – families – something has obviously happened we may or may not find out – but I’d just like to know that FIL got his card and prezzie.
Dinner tonight will be pork chops, potatoes, veg and gravy – we will be going to my parents tonight as they were due back from their holiday some time yesterday – they weren’t home when we went yesterday and I have a vague memory of the flight time being a late one, so they would get back last night.
Back to work today – first day of the change to the staffing – we’ll see how it works out or not! Whichever the case may be! Not looking forward to it to be honest as I can see it’s going to be more stressful than it is now and we’re going to have a lot of unhappy customers, and when you’re the one on the front line – we’re the one’s that get the flack.
At least if we’re busy the day will pass quickly.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning everyone, lovely sunny day here and forecast to be 23 degrees so off to walk the lurcha in the not too distant future before it gets too hot for him. What a difference a day makes, well a night's sleep any way, so I guess we're both feeling human again today. He Who Knows is coming back today after plumber sitting for DD and I've got a quiche out of the freezer for supper this evening which we'll have with new potatoes from the lottie and some green salad.JACKIE so pleased your DD is back home again and on the mend after her op, your break to Oxford sounds amazing, it's such a beautiful city isn't it? DUMPLING good news that your DH is fit and well enough to return to work, hope it all goes well and he isn't too tired at the end of the day also hope your DD has a great time camping with her elder sister and her family. MOLLY hope it's all OK with you? difficult dealing with family problems when your own health is poor and I hope so much that something has sorted itself out or is sorting itself out and that you are able to go forward with your op. Thinking of you!
Have a good day everyone, Lyn xxx.0 -
Morning all,
busy day for me ahead I think. Hubby has an appointment at the renal clinic at the hospital this morning. He had his blood test on Monday and took his 24 hour wee collection back on Tuesday so he should hear the results today. They were hoping to discharge him after this visit so fingers crossed all goes well.
He's going back to work after he's been which will leave me to get stuck in to the living room. Talking about the living room, I'm going to have to get the carpet cleaner out. All I can smell in there is 'dog'. The girls could do with a bath to be honest but Lucy dog is too heavy for me to maul in and out of the bath without help and its Lucy dog that's usually the stinker. I'll probably grab 'Youngest' tonight and he can lift her out of the bath for me.
Not sure what I'm doing for tea. Havent got that far yet so we'll see.
Onwards and forwards,
have a great day all. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Morning :hello:
I've been eating strawberries from the garden, just a couple each day but they're fab. I have three varieties, I planted them with the labels so I could choose my favourite and buy the same seeds next year. But they all taste the same to me
They're sending off loads of runners (so I probably won't need more seeds after all), I'll 'catch' them in little pots and plant them when they're big enough. I need to buy more large pots for them, I'll get some later in the week.
I've finished my crocheted chicken – her feet and beak are a bit curly and I need to re-do the eyes (they make her look like a startled owl, lol) but I do love her

I needed something to focus on so went on the hunt for something useful. Crochet mandalas seem to be popular at the moment but they don't do anything for me. And I'm not donating in order to fund someone's business  So I've got myself involved in two yarnbombing projects
I'll be spending the day surrounded by mushrooms, multicoloured flowers and if I can read the patterns properly (highly unlikely!), little animals.
