in Credit cards
Hi I am desperate for some advice please. I am 60 years old and my husband is 63. I had a stroke in 2010 but eventually went back to work, but, after stroke developed other medical issues ie Me, fibromyalgia, diabetes etc etc and had to give up work in 2012 as I couldn't work.
I received benefit payments in regard to work related payments for 6 months, and, then this stopped.
To cut a long story short, I applied for benefits, was assessed by Atos as fit to work, and appealed last June, sending hospital and GP letters stating I was not fit to work. After 4 weeks I telephoned DSS to be told they had never received appeal, and, I was so ill at the time I just gave up.
I applied again in January 2014 and am still awaiting to be assessed by Atos and have been told I just have to wait!
My husband and I have worked all our lives and have now found ourselves in a terrible position of credit card debt.
We owe nearly 6000 on a credit card and even though we are paying at least £130. Back a month the interest is 75 so we are not getting anywhere in paying the debt off.
Can anyone give us some advice please we are desperate to know what to do.
My husband is still working and has two years until retirement. I looked at transferring to a 0% credit card but we would not be accepted according to this site. Should we try and take a loan out or what.
I am so sorry if I have gone on too long, and, realise that to some it is not a huge debt, but, we have never been in debt in our lives and the worry of this is making both myself and my husband I'll.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I suggest that you go to your local Citizens Advice Bureau and ask for their advice not just on this debt but on your benefits sitution.0

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.

There are a number of debt charities out there and they are certainly worth speaking to. Not personally a fan of the CAB even if they intentions are good.
Ultimately most credit card companies arent interested whilst you are still making payments and only once you get behind will they then start trying to help etc.0
