query re. bank or credit card travel insurance

Options
I have just made a small successful claim through my travel insurance due to minor medical treatment on holiday. The cheque has arrived but the insurer has asked me to confirm whether I have additional insurance through my bank or credit card card provider. I don't but if I did, I would have to supply account details to them.

Are they trying to find out whether they can claim the payment back or just checking that i won't make a duplicate claim? Or is there another reason?
I have never bought holiday insurance through my bank or opted for a premium account to include it simply because I have suspected that it would have too many exclusions/not cover pre -existing conditions.

they would seek to split the cost of the claim if you were double insured.

Is it worth it for them when half my payout (after excess deduction) would be just under £100?

It'll be a standard process that they are following and the letters are probably automated.

Given the salary of own customer losses claims handlers its probably worth their time as its just a couple of automatic letters and a file review or two

I wonder how many claimants actually try to claim from both insurance providers and get caught out? As long as my cheque goes through I will be happy (just paid it in).

Some but I imagine that most who intend to do that dont provide the details or quickly withdraw one claim or the other.

There was on TV the other day where someone took out a silly number of policies and claimed she'd done it to be able to read the T&Cs with the intent of cancelling all but one once she'd worked out the best policy. Of cause she actually claimed on all the policies when she had to cancel the holiday. I dont recall it mentioning how they spotted that particular fraud
