Fixing neighbour noise in our bedroom.
Comments

Unfortunately the noise managed to reach us even in the other room last night. Went into the main bedroom and the noise was absolutely rediculous. This was past 22:30.
 Started noting it down now.
Need to get that wall sorted as soon as possible. Has anyone used Soundstop.co.uk?
Fear is spending few hundred pounds to little effect then ending up having to move anyway. It's grating on OH greater than me and she's getting very upset about it and starting to not like being at home.
I'd like to try and speak to them about it but fear making it worse.Mortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)

You could also be getting the noise transfer through the floorboards too. Have you thought of that?
Does the florr vibrate at all with the noise? You would need to insulate that area too. Some of the more DIY Boffins on here will be able to help you out more on that.
I don't have the upset you have, but did find that when I had our kitchen done, they had to remove all the plaster off the party wall, as it was Victorian crap. They then dot and dabbed plasterboard on instead and then tiled floor to ceiling. Now we can hear girl next door singing when in her kitchen, which isn't too bad as during the day and she goes to bed early. Only issue is , that it is always Patsy Cline, who I cannot stand ! lol0

Im experiencing noisey neighbours in my terraced house too.
I am going to get out of here as quickly as i can afford to but as you've only been there a few months i would have a polite word with the neighbour, keep a diary of the late night noise and spend time and money getting your bedroom soundproofed but dont forget to do the floor. I was told a gap between the wall and plasterboards makes sound travel - my entire house is covered in this!!!!!!0

Loud music at 2am is definitely a case for Environmental Health.

We have lifted carpet, stripped off skirting board, ripped off plasterboard. Plasterboard was poorly put on, was resonating.
The party wall is full of HUGE cracks and holes, put a pencil into one and almost lost it. Wouldn't have been surprised if I'd poked the neighbour with it.
So going to fill the cracks, lift floorboards and put dense mineral wool between joists touching the wall. check if similar needs to be done in loft as well. Stick up acoustic plasterboard on the wall.
Then we'll see what effect that has. If noise is still too high, then will go whole hog and build stud wall 1cm away from wall, filled with the acoustic mineral wool and then two layers of acoustic plaster board.
 It was very noisy work, hope we didn't disturb anyone... Mortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23) Mortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)

 As of today:
Mortared on and in all cracks and gaps in the wall
 Floorboards lifted nearest wall
Expanding foam in gaps between joists and where they cut into wall
Gyproc SoundCoat applied to wall, including sections under floorboards
Rockwool (SL930) 100mm put down between floor joists
 Floorboards back down
Metal stud tracks attached to floor and ceiling at least 10mm from wall - Side studs attached to neighbouring walls. Studs spaced 600mm ( central three 450mm for strength). 50mm rockwool inbetween.
Roll of accoustic insulation then layered horizontally across full wall
Resilient bars screwed in rows spaced 37cm on top.
Tomorrow two layers of accoustic plasterboard will be screwed on too. Dense stuff...will have fun getting it up and round the stairs in one
 piece!
Guitar being played few minutes ago.
But already, noise much lower in living room due to the insulation in bedroom floor etc. and I couldn't hear it at all in bedroom. OH could with her slightly more acute hearing, hopefully she won't either once the boards are put up and sealed.Mortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)

It's all up, surface just needs finishing and painting
 But...
Still noisy. Noise is bypassing the wall and coming through the exterior windowed wall.
Very depressing after putting so much money and effort into it.Mortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)
