Vehicle insurance quoting needs overhaul.

Options
I've just spent 15 minutes providing details to get a quote that was rubbish. I know there are comparison sites but not all deal with multi vehicles.
The answer is simple, it also has scope for someone to make thousands.
We need an online database that we update once with all our details, house, car, motorcycles, boats, dogs, cats whatever you can or want to insure, this data is linked / accessed when you need a requote, it could take seconds to input and receive quotes.
This data could be easily be updated and would ensure accurate, legal insurance. The data would also be linked to no claims, claims, fines etc.
WHY THIS ISN'T ALREADY IN PLACE IN 2014 I DO NOT KNOW.
So, make a million or two and get it rolling.

Who would run and pay for a database like that? Not to mention the security issues surrounding it.

There is data, very important personal data all over the place, all secure, sometimes compromised, your own PC holds loads, credit card number etc, only you control it by regular updates and firewalls, I'm sure an insurance alliance would cope in securing it.
Cost, insurance companies would save millions not maning call centres full of 100's of staff, they would gladdy foot a large slice.
It would also drive insurance cost down as lots of people don't move because of the hassle involved. If you could get the best quote quick and easily most people would requote annually.

Exactly your data is scattered everywhere. But nowhere has every single bit of information about you.

Regular updates and firewalls wont stop everyone gaining access to your PC.

Firewalls have to allow certain data transmissions, If you piggyback onto those then you get access.

The comparison sites save the data you input what more do you need? Multicar policies are not always cheapest so a waste of time for many.

Nothing stopping you setting up the service if you think there is demand.

That's what I was thinking. This pretty much exists, doesn't it?

Comparison sites, yes, there's lots, there's also lots of companies not on comparison sites and they all need data, every vehicle, every year.
I just think if there was a standard form, that you updated, that could be associated to all companies it'll be easier.
But it won't happen, I'll continue to spend hours if not days every year sorting low cost, best insurance. Its not progress in 2014.

What makes you think they would want to be part of your alliance. They don't even want to be on comparison sites.

You dont need to spend any time sorting insurance. Just pay the renewal price.

I presume you check prices on other stuff? Do you buy something from Tesco for £3 when its only £1 at ASDA which is over the road?

Aggregator margins are fairly thin these days due to the high cost of advertising Insurance and other FS products hence why you arent finding people queuing up to invest the many millions required to build this.

The reason it doesnt exist already is because there is no source databases exist to do the updates from. DVLA wont yet share info on fines/ points etc. There is no reliable central source of claims data, CUE is very hit and miss. I'm not into animals but I am fairly sure there is no central database of all pets and what treatments/ inoculations etc they receive. Like wise if you get into protection coverages like Life or PHI then there is no accessable database of all your medical conditions etc.

The basic, store my details and I will review/ update each time already exists and is done at an OK level by the aggregators. Perhaps they could get a little bit smarter in mirroring your driving license and claims etc across Car and Motorbike etc but thats really about it.
