The best wont be the cheapest, so those two requirements are going to be mutually exclusive.

I would only check the car i was about to buy, and as such i would use HPI themselves.

HPI, RAC or the AA. Cheap checks are a waste of money.

If you dont want to spend the money on a proper check you may as well flip a coin to see if the cars OK or not.

Why not find out yourself instead of getting others to do the searching for you.

They tend not to check all the options nor have any worthwhile guarantee if the check fails to pick up an issue.

As for the 'cheapest' in the OP - why would you want to save £10 when buying a £10K (or whatever) car? Is it really worth that risk?

Cheap ones are just a check which maybe just what you can do yourself on the DVLA website.

They offer no cover if the data turns out to be false. And they are unreliable.

You may as well flip a coin rather than waste money on a cheap check.
