Bed manufacturers - divan bed base

Hello all

Looking around at the moment for a double divan bed base that is good quality and reasonably priced. Budget would be less than £500. I want the base only as I have a mattress.

Any ideas/recommendations for high quality manufacturers? Is it worth getting something that's National Bed Federation approved or do most bed bases comply with fire regs these days?

I don't know about quality, but they will all have to meet fire regs.

Healthbeds and Kaymed make a very strong divan base, the hardest part will be finding a retailer who'll sell you just a base on it's own.

The bigger boys, Dreams, Benson etc won't. Try your local independent bed store.

I just bought a divan base and didn't have any problems getting one without a mattress. My only difficulty was that I wanted one with feet/ gliders rather than castors. Some stores had pricing structures e.g. Base and mattress £800, mattress only £600. This suggested that the base could be bought for £200 but instead it was £400.

In the end we want to the local independent, very expensive shop to see what they could do. £250 and available the next day from their clearance warehouse. Very happy to have a bed that doesn't slide all over the floor.

Pricing structure is correct, you get a discount on buying a complete bed. Divan base is NOT set price minus mattress price.

Manufacturer will charge a disproportionate cost on buying a mattress or base only.

Not very MSE though! We nearly bought a whole set with a view to selling on the mattress as it would have been better value.

Mmmm thanks all. I might end up buying both in the end to maximise savings. Any ideas about how different brands compare?

If your talking about getting a decent divan base with the mattress then your'll be thinking £600 plus. More if you want drawers.

With over 100 different brands on the market how long have you got?

Go into your local independent bed store, any decent one should be able to show you the differences.

Ask then to pull out a drawer get on your hands and knees and have a look at the construction inside to see the differences. Ask them to point you in the right direction of a decent base.

What every you do do not buy a Healthiposture mattress.
We bought Their Alova mattress kingsize. After 18 months big depression in mattress about 18 inches in diameter and half the thickness of the mattress.
Sadly the company we bought the mattress from have gone out of business.
looked on their web site and they had a life time guarantee
called very rude claiming only year gaurantee next day website changed no life time gaurnatee.
Expensive, poor quality and very poor service do not buy.
