Alcudia

the OH and I are thinking of going to Alcudia around the middle of october.
I have done some quick research and it seems to be a large resort with different areas suiting different holiday needs.
as neither of us have never been before and advice on which part of the resort and accomodation would be great.
neither of us are had core party animals that stay up till dawn but that sort of thing is ok if it is near by just for a 1 off, so we dont want it deathly quiet.
we like a bit of culture and also a bit of luxury if the price is right. we are thinking of going self catering/room only.

partner stayed in alcudia three years ago and it is a bit touristy, the past two years weve stayed in pollensa which might be a little more expensive but i think its much more pleasant and you are only a short bus ride to alcudia anyway

self catering in pollensa, couldnt fault the villa concha two minutes walk from the sea, right next to the montelin studios also, you dont have to use thomas cook, just showing you the pictures etc

Playa de muro is nice too, but only small place so limited facilities, but all the places are right on the beach. C'an Picafort is a nice little town right on the beach too, with a bit more going for it.

You are going towards the end of the season, so some of the places will be shutting up shop for winter then. That side of the island does close for winter, palma Nova, santa ponsa etc stay open all year round.

Thats one of the things i was unsure of, when things start to shut down.

There are always some places open all year round - by mid October a few will have closed and it will be fairly quiet, October half-term tends to be the cut-off date so the last Sunday in October. Same goes really for Puerto Pollensa however Pollensa and Alcudia old town (within the walls) remain 'open' all year round as both locals live there and they are frequented by tourists who are less interested in soaking up the sun.

2 reasons were are thinking of going at that time.
    1-it is around my birthday
2- it seems to be a lively sort of place, but by that time it wont be as lively.
we dont mind it being touristy.
really after recommendations for places to stay.

Hated Alcudia, loved Puerto Pollensa. Alcudia seems downmarket compared to Puerto Pollensa.
  • Old Town is nice, google it and lots of good value places will come up. Pollenca is much nicer tho.

WE always stay in Alcudia but visit Puerto Pollennsa as we love the Pine walk and cafes but like the entertainment in the evenings in Alcudia, not clubby but singers and tribute groups There are basically three parts to Alcudia. Holiday Alcudia which is touristy but not Like Magaluff with loverly walks and beach. The port of Alcudia with a harbour and nice cafes which is a flat walk from Holiday Alcudia and The old walled town about a mile and a half away. A bit more culture there with Roman ruins and small amphitheatre. It is a bus ride away from Puerto Pollensa. The town of Pollensa a few miles inland is worth a visit if you feel like a walk up 365 steps for a view. We always go half board so can't help there. When we were there last noise from bars etc has to stop by 12pm that can be heard on the street,so most entertainment ends then

  • We stay in the Astoria Playa 3 star, adults only. We like the position minutes from the beach and minutes from the town but not alot of rowdy noise at night, friendly bar with entertainment opposite. if you decided to go ask for a room away from the road and garden view,4th floor up and the views are good. Opposite there is the No Frills Excustions, we went on there rustic tour (I think that is what it was called) very different going around small towns and villages and seeing there markets and buying Breads, melons, tomatoes , wine and in the end went to a farm with wonderful views and had a barbecue. That was two years ago so dont know if they still do it.
