I can't help you with your question :(
I was wondering because my son is on DLA.
My sons claim is due to end on his 16th birthday so will we have to apply again for PIP or are they extending claims of DLA ?
  • All the new personal independeant payments are being done by areas/postcodes you can use the gov.uk website to see if you fall in one of these areas. You can then fill in the date of birth and if your currently claiming DlA and it will tell you if it will continue and give you a list of areas and postcodes with exemption to this.Hope this helps you.

I would call and check. In my experience, unless you're proactive in your approach to dealing with the DLA they tend to drag their feet. Make sure that the payments have been back dated to your son's bday. Hope that helps.

Unless it's changed again, DLA is meant to carry on after 16 due to the backlogs.

My son recently turned 16. He had a payment on the 10th which was a normal payment. He then received a part payment not long after his birthday on the 15th. I was advised this was the last payment as a child. he then received his next payment 4 weeks after his birthday, this was his 1st payment as an adult. He has been paid every 4 weeks since as normal.

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks everyone.
I had a look at the gov website and we are in a ATOS area for PIP but at least it says the payments continue until the PIP is decided.
We have a few months before he is 16 but it's good to have a idea of what's to come.
My son gets DLA for moderate hearing loss but I understand it will be more difficult for him to claim PIP due to tougher rules regarding hearing loss :(
