CAG letter of authority

Hi I wonder if anyone can help. In early 2012 I had a cold call from Claims Advisory Group saying they could help claim some PPI so I stupidly signed some forms for a Tesco's and Lloyds loan. I didn't hear any things for ages then in Nov '13 I received a letter asking me to sign a letter of authority as they were close to reclaiming PPI from lloyds. Again I didn't hear anything for ages until I received 3 letters from lloyds in Apr'14 asking me to complete forms on 3 loans I had, two were addressed to me directly and one noted the CAG name. Anyway I have been successful, lloyds paid me directly and then I got the request from CAG for their commission on all three lloyds accounts. As most people I was quite shocked as how much I paid but duly raised a chq. Then yesterday I received 2 letters from CAG asking to sign Letters of Authority for the 2 loans which I can only assume are retrospective of the claim. Now I don't know if CAG actually chased these loans or whether they just came to know about them because lloyds sent them a summary of the successful claim. So the question is if I don't sign these letters of authority do I not need to pay the commission on the claim? Any advice will be gratefully received.

These two comments are key. You've signed legally-binding documents as part of the contract you agreed with them to represent you in all your PPI complaints.

These were in response to the Claims Company instigating a PPI complaint using information you provided.

I'm not sure why you were "shocked", the terms of your contract will have been that they represent you in ALL PPI complaints. Claims Companies don't receive the redress from the Bank, the complainant does, and then the CMC send a bill for their commission.

As before, they sent the original letter of complaint to Lloyds.

Certainly they have been remiss if they've only sent you the letters of authority after you've already been successful, but I can't see you being able to wriggle out of paying them as a result. Why did you leave it such a long time in the first place before chasing them up to make your complaint?

If you haven't signed the letters of authority then they have no right to represent you in these claims and no right to charge for them.

You need to check if these letters are indeed retrospective of the already successful complaints. No point "assuming".
