When should I start looking for end of Aug move...?

Hi All

Im looking to move into a rental apartment in Edinburgh at end of august. When should I be looking to view the apartments and get the contract sorted? I've only been used to renting student houses in manchester, which we all sort out around february for a july move, but im guessing its not like that for "professional lets"!

Cheers

    About now?!

Different properties are available at different times, but if a tenant is moving out before the end of August, they will need to be giving notice around now, or even before now, depending on the date they pay rent.

I found my house about a month before I moved in.

    It can be.

If you are using a letting agent then they will need to reference check and credit check you which can take time. They also need to ensure that your deposit and first month's rent have cleared which adds on a working week.

Even a private landlord is likely to do the same.

So I would start looking because you have to factor in going and seeing properties around people's summer holidays.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

yeah ive already started looking online for suitable properties, but the problem is, my new employer (industrial placement) is taking ages with the checks they have to do on me - and until i get an all-clear from them i dont want to commit to a 6months lease with estate agents etc :@

im planning on going up next week regardless, but i cant be certain that my company would have got back to me by then!

Also - i'll still be a registered student. how would the guarantor work? Reason I ask is because none of my parents are living in this country, which would cause problems. Im going to get in touch with student services at my uni to see what they say but it's always been a problem with "international students" havent they? though i should add that im a "home" student with permanent visa (im non-uk nationality).
