Discounted Standing Charge

Hiya
On my energy bill it reads

Standard energy 166 kWh £20.96
Discounted Standing Charge 44 days £6.89

Can somebody explain the discounted standing charge and why it's applied along with the energy use?

Thank you

Part of the Furniture 10,000 Posts Name Dropper
    Energy .126 per kwh
Standing charge .1566 per day .

Standing charge is what you pay per day for the infrastructure pipes meters etc .Kwh is for the actual usage .
Some tariffs have no standing charge but its built in to the kwh price .

Thanks, J J, but I suspect it is the adjective not the compound noun that the OP wanted explained!
  • Its just a method of paying a discount. For example if you get both gas & electricity from the same company each with a £50 per annum discount for paying via direct debit. You may see that discount applied as a £100 per annum divided by 365 days = 27p per day. What discount the O/P gets with a value of 15p per day / or / £54.75 per annum I've no idea.

  • I was looking for an answer to everything :) Compound noun, adjectives, the lot xD And I got it
    Thanks peeps.
  • The OP seems to be with SSE.

Their annual standing charge per fuel is £100 per year/365 days expressed as 27.10p per day before tax on the bill. The 15.66p is the daily standing charge shown after the £40 annual dd discount is applied to the account (applied/365days about 10p a day off the 27.10p give or take rounding up)
