insuring a van for a couple of months

I'm going to buy a van tomorrow which I will be taking to have converted to a horsebox in a few weeks. I need insurance to get it and drop it off and then while it is undergoing conversion. I presume all insurance companies will charge an early termination fee, would this be a standard industry charge or are all companies different?. The pay as you go insurance is just too expensive.

You can buy short-term insurance, but it isn't the case that 1 months premium is equivilent to an annual one divided by 12 - you'll have to pay the set-up costs of the policy to make it worthwhile to the insurer.

There are specialist firms out there for this, and lots of mainstream insurers do provide it, even if they do keep it quiet.

Maybe ask your insurer if they'll give you a quote factoring in it being off road for a few months. Probably cheaper to just insure it properly for the year if they can cope with it changing purpose.

Unfortunately the van is going self drive hire after conversion so a completely different and very expensive insurance required.

Can't you get the company doing the conversion to collect it using their trade insurance?

Back to original question, each companies cancelation charges are different as are the ways of calculating how much premium you have used up.
