Santander Faster Payment to Barclays

My husband was sent money last night at 10.30pm by faster payment from a Sanatnder account into a Barclays account. It is now the day after and nothing is showing as yet, the person that made the payment has assured me that it is showing that it has debited his account he has even been into the local branch and they have said it has left his account. So where is it?:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Faster Payment timescales set that the payment must reach the recipient account by close of business on the second working day following the request. That means the money has to be there by close of business on Monday. It's worth double checking the details it's been sent to though to make sure it's not gone walkabout.

Was it a large amount? They could be doing routine fraud checks... Hope it gets sorted

Double checked the details over and over with the the person sending the money, who has also checked with the bank at his branch that the correct account number and sort code has been given!

Santander have stupid security procedures for new payments if the amount is anything but trivial.

The sender should call them and request to speak to the fraud team, though even that may not speed up the payment. Sometimes they even deny they are holding the payment but persistence usually pays off. Or patience.
  • Santander seems slow on fast payments. It took nearly 2 days to appear in my TSB account when I had to transfer from Santander account.

Whereas First Direct/HSBC do them pretty much within 2 hrs to another bank.

Santander is literally instant as well for existing payees. But painfully slow for some new ones.

They claim it is in our interest since they are preventing fraud by holding up payments. Beats me how that would be the case since they never ask the account holder about the payment.

    Yes - patience is needed!

My experience is that Santander123 generates an immediate text for you to 'authorise' the first transfer to a new payee however small the amount.

The Cahoot team have been around a while and don't seem to be into texting. To avoid the possibility of their fraud team holding up a transfer to a new payee, the sender must phone customer services before setting up the transfer, although it may still take to the end of the next working day. It doesn't speed it up, but avoids them phoning or emailing for confirmation.
